I began taking photographs in a casual way before coming to Curaçao. In 1985, I entered some of my photographs in a contest and won. After winning another first prize and receiving several commissions, I decided to follow a correspondence course at the New York Institute of Photography. Nowadays photography is as important to me as ceramics. The tropical light, dramatic shadows and colors are inspiring. I try to intensify atmosphere; often this evokes a melancholical mood.
